Wider weather episode
At the surface, a cold front slowly approached from the west, with a pre-frontal trough developing ahead of it. Aloft, the area remained generally on the eastern edge of mid/upper level troughing. While shear was not all that impressive (about 25 kt of 0-6km bulk shear), strong heating aided in MLCAPE values reaching about 2000 j/kg. With lift from the aforementioned features, and likely help from the right entrance region of an upper level jet streak, showers and thunderstorms started to develop. Some storms reached severe criteria and produce damaging wind gusts.
