Event narrative
Multiple sources reported flash flooding developed on the north side of Lenoir after 2 to 4 inches of rain fell over the area in less than two hours. The main impacts were to Blair Fork and its tributaries. Blair Fork overflowed its bans and inundated multiple roads, including Main St NW and Valway Rd, where water was up to car doors. Multiple water rescues were reported along Blair Fork. Water from a tributary inundated portions of Indian Grave Rd and Bill Tuttle Rd, where water entered a mobile home. Zacks Fork Creek also reportedly overflowed its banks onto a section of Zacks Fork Rd.
Wider weather episode
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms developed across the North Carolina Piedmont and foothills throughout the afternoon into the evening. A few of the storms produced brief damaging wind gusts. Slow storm movement resulted in torrential rainfall rates which led to flash flooding in Caldwell County.
