Wider weather episode

A surface low pressure system over eastern Montana combining with an upper level short-wave trough led to thunderstorm development over western North Dakota in an environment of very high instability and elevated deep layer shear. Some of these thunderstorms became severe over western North Dakota. Over Stark County, hail up to one-inch in diameter was reported along with estimated wind gusts to 80 mph which severely damaged a small building. Later that night, a severe storm produced damaging wind gusts to 93 mph over Mountrail County. This caused severe damage to campers near Van Hook Park and Parshall.
