Several tree limbs were downed by thunderstorm winds.
Wider weather episode
Thunderstorms developed along a nearly stationary pre-frontal boundary during the early evening across south central South Dakota. As cold pool development forced storms eastward off the initiating boundary into an environment with appreciable DCAPE and deep-layer shear of 40 to 50 knots, thunderstorms organized into a small bowing segment, which plowed east and southeast with up to nearly 90 mph winds. After several hours, storms moved into a less favorable environment with both lesser shear and instability toward the James River Valley and weakened.
