Ham radio operator reported nickel size hail in the Mortimer community.

Scattered thunderstorms and storm clusters developed over the North Carolina Blue Ridge during the early afternoon and steadily progressed east through the afternoon into the early evening. Isolated storms became severe and produced hail and brief damaging wind gusts.
