The Weatherflow mesonet on Ship Island XSHI measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 46 mph or 40 knots.
Wider weather episode
A decaying outflow boundary sent out from storms in northern Mississippi and Alabama reached the local area late on the 19th. As this boundary reached the local area, it encountered a quite unstable environment which was conducive for convective development and gusty winds.
