Showers and thunderstorms congealing north-northwest of the region eventually tracked south into the local area, encountering a highly unstable airmass displaying large downdraft CAPE and strong mid-level lapse rates, leading to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail across Southeast South Carolina.
