Event narrative

Spotters reported flash flooding developed across southern Cleveland County after 3 to 5 inches of rain fell between Earl and Boiling Springs in just a couple of hours. Bowens River reportedyl overflowed its banks near Earl and inundated both lanes of Austell Graham Rd. High flows and stream levels on Shoal Creek also washed out at least one culvert under Shoal Creek Church Rd.

Wider weather episode

Scattered, slow-moving thunderstorms developed over western North Carolina during the early morning hours. Multiple slow-moving storms moved over southern Cleveland County, resulting in up to 5 inches of rain falling in a short period of time, followed by localized flash flooding.
