Peak wind gust of 52 mph resulted in a tree branch of 6 to 12 inches in diameter breaking off. Hail was the size of nickels.

A small shortwave aloft passing through the region brought scattered showers and thunderstorms to North-Central MT on the 17th and to Southwest MT on the 18th. The thermodynamic environment was favorable for severe storms to produce strong winds.
