Event narrative

The AWOS station KSYF St. Francis Airport recorded the wind gust. Brownout conditions due to blowing dust was also reported 4 miles to the east of Wheeler along Highway 36 per Emergency Manager leading to cars pulling off of the highway.

Wider weather episode

Thunderstorms from northeast Colorado and southwest Nebraska continued to trek into NW Kansas where wind gusts up to 71 mph, and nickel sized hail, was reported in Cheyenne county, along with brown out conditions due to dust associated with the thunderstorm winds. A 59 mph wind gust was also reported in Norton county.
