Flash Flood — Kane, Utah

Event narrative
Heavy rainfall resulted in the development of a flash flood and associated flood wave in Hurricane Wash. An emergency manager reported that a hiker within the wash was carried approximately 300 feet downstream before climbing a tree to escape the flood. Due to injuries, the hiker required helicopter evacuation for medical care. There were also washouts reported on Hole-in-the-Rock Road with seven vehicles reported stranded. Time of flood estimated based on radar.

An early September moisture surge resulted in the return of a more active weather pattern to Utah, including some isolated instances of flash flooding as well as a strong thunderstorm wind gust.
