NOAA recorded where this tornado touched down but not where it lifted, so it appears as a point. Other tornadoes recorded nearby that day are shown faint.

What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A storm chaser spotted a brief, weak tornado with this storm. No damage was noted.

The wider storm

On the evening of June 19th, strong thunderstorms developed in north-central South Dakota, moving east-southeast and producing large hail. Hail up to two inches in diameter was reported six miles north of Onaka and in the town of Faulkton.

As the storms traveled east, the primary threat shifted from hail to wind. Peak wind gusts of 68 mph were measured at Mayfield Colony and 4 miles east-southeast of Lake Norden. The winds downed trees and tree limbs in parts of rural Clark and Hamlin counties, including the towns of Estelline and Vienna. A machine shed in Mayfield Colony was also damaged.

Chasers also noted a brief tornado up around Hillside Colony, though no damage was noted.

Began near Bloomfield (44.7400, -97.9800).
