Event narrative

The Walworth County Emergency Manager estimated the wind speed to top out between 60 to 70 mph as the storm passed through after the ASOS lost power.

Wider weather episode

Several strong storms spread between north central and northeast South Dakota producing high winds and tornadoes. A peak gust of 70 mph was measured at the Mobridge Regional Airport and a 68 mph gust was measured on a personal weather station 3 miles north-northwest of Lake Cochrane. Two tornadoes developed; one tracked approximately 4 miles causing damage to farmsteads and vehicles, while the second was a brief touchdown with no observed damage.
