Severe (D2) drought conditions over northwestern Custer County, Improved to moderate (D1) and abnormally dry (D0) drought conditions by the end of July. The cooperative observer at Callaway 8WSW reported 8.03 inches of precipitation for July. The cooperative observer at Broken Bow 2W reported 3.52 inches of precipitation for the month. This was 0.40 inches above the normal of 3.12 inches. At the Broken Bow Airport, 3.92 inches of precipitation fell in July. This was 0.75 inches above the normal of 3.17 inches.
Wider weather episode
Normal to above normal rainfall, coupled with average temperatures, led to improvements in drought conditions across most of western and north central Nebraska in July. Drought conditions remained unchanged across the eastern Nebraska Panhandle, as well as portions of Hayes and Frontier Counties.
