Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted over southeastern Hayes County through the end of July. The cooperative observer at Hayes Center reported 3.05 inches of precipitation for July. This was 0.21 inches below the normal of 3.26 inches.

Wider weather episode

Normal to above normal rainfall, coupled with average temperatures, led to improvements in drought conditions across most of western and north central Nebraska in July. Drought conditions remained unchanged across the eastern Nebraska Panhandle, as well as portions of Hayes and Frontier Counties.
