Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions, improved to moderate (D1) drought conditions over south central Frontier County by the end of July. Over the remainder of the southern 2/3rds of the county, severe (D2) drought persisted through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Curtis reported 2.90 inches of precipitation in July. This was 0.06 inches below the normal of 2.96 inches. The cooperative observer at Eustis 2NW reported 7.47 inches of precipitation in July. This was 4.16 inches above the normal of 3.31 inches. The cooperative observer at Stockville reported 6.85 inches of precipitation in July. This was 3.41 inches above the normal of 3.44 inches.

Wider weather episode

Normal to above normal rainfall, coupled with average temperatures, led to improvements in drought conditions across most of western and north central Nebraska in July. Drought conditions remained unchanged across the eastern Nebraska Panhandle, as well as portions of Hayes and Frontier Counties.
