Heat — Smith, Texas

2025-08-08 to 2025-08-09 · Smith, Texas

Wider weather episode

An upper level ridge of high pressure was centered over much of Texas on August 8th-9th, with increased subsidence beneath the ridge allowing temperatures across East Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, extreme Southwest Arkansas, and Northwest Louisiana to climb into the upper 90s to in excess of 100 degrees. A light southerly wind on the backside of surface high pressure over the Lower Mississippi Valley maintained ample low level moisture and limited the extent of mixing, resulting in heat indices ranging from 105-110 degrees across the aforementioned areas.
