Strong heating developed over portions of Southern Arkansas during the afternoon of August 14th, as upper level ridging began to amplify east across the region into the Lower Mississippi Valley. This resulted in afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid 90s to in excess of 100 degrees each day, before the heat intensified further on the 19th. When combined with the humidity, heat indices ranged from 105-110 degrees.
