Event narrative
The river gauge Clear Creek near Chinook MT - USGS-06142400 showed water rose quicky rose above bank full due to a thunderstorm beginning late on the 27th. It crested to 8.36ft early on the 28th. The water receded back into it's bank shortly after in the early morning of the 28th. No reported damages from the flood.
Wider weather episode
A persistent troughing pattern brought in good instability and shear to produce severe thunderstorms across the region over the 3 day time frame with strong winds as the primary hazard. There was also isolated large hail. Anomalously high moisture content and slower moving storms brought localized flooding. A thunderstorm produced heavy rainfall and caused flooding in Havre and in Clear Creek on the 27th. The Havre airport reported 1.72 inches in about 45 minutes, with other reports in town estimated 2.5 of rain quickly. There were also flooding along Highway 69 & 55 in Jefferson County on the 29th.
