Event narrative

A retired National Weather Service meteorologist reported ping pong ball size hail to the northwest of Lander. Penny size hail fell in Hudson.

Wider weather episode

An upper level low moved across Wyoming and brought a round of strong to severe thunderstorms to western and central Wyoming. The severe thunderstorms brought both hail and strong wind. The maximum wind gust reported was 75 mph near Muddy Gap with wind gusts over 58 mph also reported in Sublette, Sweetwater, Lincoln and Hot Springs Counties. In Afton, trees were blown onto power lines leading a power outage. A pile of loose rocks was blown down near Tabletop Mountain in Johnson County. In Fremont County, a supercell thunderstorm moved southeast dropping penny to ping pong size hail, with the largest hail reported to the northwest of Lander.
