Event narrative
Emergency manager reported flash flooding developed in the city of Lincolnton after 3 to 4 inches of rain fell in just a couple of hours in association with slow-moving thunderstorms. Water was reportedly at least a couple of feet high on some roads due to a combination of poor drainage and small stream flooding, with water up to the headlights of some vehicles. A total of five roads were closed due to flood inundation, mainly in the downtown area.
Wider weather episode
Scattered thunderstorms developed across western North Carolina during the afternoon and evening. A few of the storms produced brief strong-to-damaging wind gusts. Meanwhile, slow-moving storms produced torrential rainfall and flash flooding in the city of Lincolnton.
