Showers and thunderstorms developed along an approaching trough early on the morning of July 3. As the thunderstorms approached the U.S. waters of Lake Ontario, they were strong enough to cause gusty winds, including a wind gust at Olcott of 38 knots. The storms then weakened as they approached and then moved onshore.
