Thunderstorms developed over western and central North Dakota as a short-wave trough moved into a highly unstable atmosphere. Although there were reports of large hail, the main concern with these storms were strong wind gusts. The strongest reported wind gust of 84 mph occurred in Williams County to the southeast of Wheelock. The largest hail reported was the size of a ping pong ball, which fell near Williston in Williams County.
