Wider weather episode

An upper level short wave trough approached western and central North Dakota where very strong instability was in place, along with elevated deep layer shear values. Initially, there was a mix of large hail and strong wind gusts, but the wind gusts quickly became the primary threat as the storms pushed through western and central North Dakota. The strongest wind gusts were estimated at 90 mph at two locations. The first was in Dunn County north of Marshall where a garage was destroyed, and the second was in Mercer County east of Twin Buttes where a roof was torn off a mobile home.
