Event narrative
Flash flooding started near Bent with arroyo flooding on Mauer Drive. An arroyo bank was cut with edge of embankment moved 14 feet closer to a home. There was also culvert and road damage along Round Mountain Road. Further west, flash flooding was noted along Tularosa Creek above Bridal Falls. Flooding extended into into a backyard and crawl space of a house with an artificial pond washed out about 4 miles east of Tularosa.
Wider weather episode
A strong upper high over the southeast US and a trough approaching the west coast streamed deep moisture into the Borderland with a low level surface trough located through far west Texas into eastern New Mexico. Slow moving storms brought rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches to areas of Dona Ana and Otero counties with the Vado area most significantly impacted.
