Event narrative

Colleton County Fire and Rescue reported that a Cottageville home was damaged by a lightning strike at 234 Farmer Street. The lightning strike started a fire which damaged electrical wiring in the attic and burned across several rafters. One occupant was treated for smoke inhalation but did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Scattered thunderstorms developed in the afternoon hours inland of the sea breeze across portions of southeast South Carolina. These storms produced gusty winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning.
