Effingham Fire and Rescue reported that lightning struck a house along Smithwick Trail and caused damage to the structure.

Wider weather episode

Numerous clusters of thunderstorms started developing across southeast Georgia in the early afternoon hours and gradually spread eastward through the late afternoon. These storms produced damaging wind gusts and frequent cloud to ground lightning.
