Thunderstorm winds downed several 3-to-4-inch diameter tree branches across Plankinton.

A west-to-east oriented broken line of thunderstorms along the South Dakota-Nebraska border near sunrise on July 23 rapidly lifted north the remainder of the morning in response to a strong low-level jet. Damaging wind gusts were observed across portions of Aurora and Beadle Counties with the Huron Regional Airport (KHON) reporting a wind gust of 82 mph. Tree damage was reported across Huron and Plankinton, South Dakota with isolated structural damage in other parts of the area.
