Wider weather episode
Southwesterly flow aloft continued across the Northern Rockies into August 4. An embedded wave within the troughing was favorably timed in the afternoon hours to result in scattered showers and thunderstorms. Flow aloft increased with this wave, which allowed for gusty winds to be translated to the surface. Only one instance of severe caliber winds were observed on this day.
