Hail — Upper Tanana Valley, Alaska
2025-07-07 · near Dot Lake, Upper Tanana Valley, Alaska
Event narrative
Local social media reports indicated 1 inch diameter hail falling near Dot Lake and George Lake. Additional social media reports showed numerous hailstones collected along the Alaska Highway, but likely just under 1 inch in diameter.
Wider weather episode
An arctic trough dropped into northern Alaska and began to interact with a low-pressure system over the northern Gulf of Alaska. This allowed for a strong disturbance to advance northwest up the upper Tanana Valley right along the Alaska Highway. As daytime heating destabilized the atmosphere, strong to severe thunderstorms developed.
