Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions over west central Garden County persisted through the end of August. Moderate (D1) and abnormally dry (D0) conditions persisted over the remainder of the county through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Lisco reported 1.49 inches of precipitation for August. This was 0.49 inches below the normal of 1.98 inches. The cooperative observer at Crescent Lakes NWR reported 1.31 inches of precipitation for the month. This was 1.25 inches below the normal of 2.56 inches. The cooperative observer at Oshkosh reported 3.29 inches of precipitation in August. This was 1.36 inches above the normal of 1.93 inches. The cooperative station at Oshkosh 10NE reported 1.66 inches of precipitation in August.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions improved somewhat during the month of August over portions of the Sandhills, north central and southwestern Nebraska in August. Drought conditions over the eastern Panhandle remained unchanged during the month.
