Severe (D2) drought conditions over southeastern Hayes County, improved to moderate (D1) drought conditions by the end of August. The cooperative observer at Hayes Center reported 5.37 inches of precipitation for August. This was 2.55 inches above the normal of 2.82 inches.

The wider storm

Drought conditions improved somewhat during the month of August over portions of the Sandhills, north central and southwestern Nebraska in August. Drought conditions over the eastern Panhandle remained unchanged during the month.
