Over the the southern 2/3rds of Frontier County, severe (D2) drought conditions improved to moderate (D1) drought conditions by the end of August. The cooperative observer at Curtis reported 2.70 inches of precipitation in August. This was 0.05 inches above the normal of 2.65 inches. The cooperative observer at Eustis 2NW reported 2.35 inches of precipitation in August. This was 0.44 inches below the normal of 2.79 inches. The cooperative observer at Stockville reported 4.27 inches of precipitation in August. This was 1.70 inches above the normal of 2.57 inches.
Wider weather episode
Drought conditions improved somewhat during the month of August over portions of the Sandhills, north central and southwestern Nebraska in August. Drought conditions over the eastern Panhandle remained unchanged during the month.
