Wider weather episode
During the early afternoon through late evening of the 18th, Lake Erie resided within the warm and humid sector as a surface low drifted northeastward from northeastern IL to southwestern Lower MI. Simultaneously, the low's preceding warm front drifted northward across southern ON and vicinity, and the low's trailing cold front moved southeastward from northern IL and northeastern MO to southwestern Lower MI, northwestern IN, and central IL. Well ahead of the cold front, a line of multicell thunderstorms persisted generally east-northeastward over and near Lake Erie during the evening. These storms generated gale-force to storm-force peak straight-line wind gusts along the northern OH shore as they traversed an ambient environment comprised of weak to moderate MUCAPE and moderate to strong effective bulk shear.
