Event narrative

A trained spotter reported quarter sized hail on the east side of Charles City.

Wider weather episode

During the late afternoon and evening hours on September 16th, a couple of pop up thunderstorms developed across much of Iowa and produced sporadic instances of large hail. In Floyd County, two particular storm cells rapidly developed and dropped hail between quarter to golf ball size in portions of the county.
