Extreme drought conditions persisted across a majority of the zone with exceptional drought persisting over the southern portion of the zone.

Wider weather episode

September 2025 saw near to slightly below normal temperatures across northern and eastern New Mexico and slightly above normal temperatures across western and central New Mexico. Above normal precipitation was observed across western and central New Mexico with near to slightly below normal precipitation across far eastern New Mexico. The above normal precipitation across central New Mexico resulted in the removal of severe drought conditions across the Tusas Mountains, Jemez Mountains, and Rio Grande Valley. However, extreme drought persisted across far western New Mexico.
