Event narrative

Heavy rain during the middle of August allowed the Turkey River at Spillville to rise into flood stage during the morning on August 18th. The site crested at 11.23 ft in moderate flood stage during the early afternoon on August 18th before falling below flood stage during the early morning hours on August 20th.

Wider weather episode

Heavy rain throughout the middle of August contributed to rises along many area rivers in northeast Iowa. This included minor to moderate flooding along portions of the Little Cedar and Cedar Rivers, as well as the Upper Iowa and Turkey Rivers.
