Event narrative

Heavy rain during the middle of August allowed the Turkey River at Elkader to rise into flood stage during the early evening on August 19th. The site crested at 13.33 ft in minor flood stage during the late morning on August 20th before falling below flood stage just after midnight on August 21st.

Wider weather episode

Heavy rain throughout the middle of August contributed to rises along many area rivers in northeast Iowa. This included minor to moderate flooding along portions of the Little Cedar and Cedar Rivers, as well as the Upper Iowa and Turkey Rivers.
