Event narrative
Thunderstorm winds blew down numerous trees and power lines on the east side of Owensboro and to the east of town as well.
Wider weather episode
A line of strong thunderstorms developed over southern Indiana in the late afternoon and moved south on the east side of a strong ridge of high pressure aloft. Western Kentucky was in the midst of a multi-week heat wave, and the extreme heat and humidity provided fuel for the line of storms to continue southward through much of west Kentucky during the evening. Occasional downbursts resulted in sporadic damaging winds from eastern Daviess county southward into Muhlenberg county, where the storms weakened.
