Drought in Carter, Kentucky

Drought September 1, 2025 – September 30, 2025 · Carter, Kentucky

The wider storm

Fairly dry conditions were observed from late August into September, which resulted in moderate drought (D1) conditions across portions of northeast Kentucky by the beginning of the month. D1 persisted amid a prolonged period of dry weather, with a pocket of severe drought (D2) forming in Carter and Greenup Counties during the second week of the month. No changes occurred in the third week of the month.

A few rounds of rain and thunderstorms eventually brought more substantial precipitation late in the month, which resulted in one to two category improvements in northeast Kentucky. Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence Counties all improved to D0 or better by the end of the month.
