Thunderstorms moving across northeast South Dakota during the early morning hours produced strong winds and wind damage, heavy rainfall, and a brief tornado. A peak wind gust of 80 mph was recorded at the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) mesonet station 4 miles west southwest of Stone Bridge, while the SDDOT mesonet station near Turnerville recorded a peak wind gust of 77 mph. Winds were so strong in and around Watertown that the Codington County Emergency Manager reported an innumerable number of trees had fallen across town.
