Inland Broward County began the month of August in a severe (D2) drought which lingered until rainfall activity early in the month allowed slight improvement to moderate (D1) drought over much of the area except the easternmost portion.
Wider weather episode
Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of Southeast Florida since the winter months led to drought conditions entering August. Summer rainfall focused over western portions of the peninsula allowed for some improvement of the drought over the southern Everglades but areas of the east coast metropolitan areas suffered worsening of the drought due to limited rainfall.
