Event narrative
A lack of substantial rainfall led to the worsening of Moderate (D1) to Severe (D2) drought across metro Broward County to Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) drought during the month of August.
Wider weather episode
Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of Southeast Florida since the winter months led to drought conditions entering August. Summer rainfall focused over western portions of the peninsula allowed for some improvement of the drought over the southern Everglades but areas of the east coast metropolitan areas suffered worsening of the drought due to limited rainfall.
