The mesonet station along I-25 at Rowe measured a brief wind gust of 60 mph, likely from a crashing mountain wave.
Wider weather episode
An upper level disturbance moved across the northern and central Rockies during the early morning hours of October 20th. Strong west winds at the base of this disturbance resulted in some mountain wave activity across the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This mountain wave activity produced a 60 mph wind gust along I-25 at Rowe as well as tree and powerline damage near Mineral Hill. These strong west-northwest winds across the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and nearby highlands tapered off during the midday hours as the disturbance exited into the northern and central Great Plains.
