A ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest allowed for temperatures to climb well above normal on the 22nd and 23rd. The hottest temperatures occurred on the 22nd when Phoenix officially recorded a high of 102 degrees, which was 15 degrees above the daily normal high and 3 degrees short of the record high. According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, three heat-associated fatalities occurred during this time.
