Event narrative

The Thimble Shoals (XTHM) mesonet measured tropical storm force winds of 30 and 35 knots between 4 AM and 4 PM EST with a peak gust of 36 kt at 9:35 AM EST. The York Spit mesonet measured a peak gust of 35 knots at 5:12 AM EST and the Plantation Flats (XPLT) mesonet measured a peak gust to 36 knots at 9:25 AM EST.

Wider weather episode

The center of Hurricane Erin stayed several hundred miles east of the Middle Atlantic coast on August 21, 2025. However, due the extremely large size of the cyclone with an expansive wind field, tropical storm force gusts occurred over the coastal waters and lower/middle Chesapeake Bay.
