Hurricane Erin passed well offshore and combined with high pressure to the north, resulting in a period of strong onshore winds and coastal flooding across eastern Virginia and the Virginia Eastern Shore. The tide gauge at Windmill Point, VA rose above moderate tidal flood thresholds 3 times, recording 3.51 feet MLLW at 9:30 PM EST August 21, and 3.60 feet MLLW at 9:48 AM EST and 3.72 feet MLLW at 9:48 PM EST August 22.
