Hurricane Erin passed well offshore and combined with high pressure to the north, resulting in a period of strong onshore winds and coastal flooding across eastern Virginia and the Virginia Eastern Shore. The tide gauge at Scottland/Jamestown Ferry, VA exceeded moderate tidal flooding thresholds twice: recording 4.75 feet MLLW at 10:46 PM EST on August 21 and 4.53 feet MLLW at 11:06 PM EST on August 22.
