Hurricane Erin passed well offshore and combined with high pressure to the north, resulting in a period of strong onshore winds and coastal flooding across eastern Virginia and the Virginia Eastern Shore. The tide gauge at Lynnhaven, VA recorded both major and moderate coastal flooding. Major flooding reaching 5.77 feet MLLW occurred at 7:06 PM EST on August 21. Moderate flooding of 5.05 feet MLLW was recorded at 8:21 PM EST on August 22.
