Hurricane Erin passed well offshore and combined with high pressure to the north, resulting in a period of strong onshore winds and coastal flooding across portions of the northern North Carolina Outer Banks. The tide gauge at Duck, NC recorded major tidal flooding of 7.04 feet MLLW at 5:42 PM EST on August 21. Moderate flooding of 6.17 feet MLLW was observed at 6:36 PM EST on August 22.
